In the heart of eastern Verona is the village of Soave. Soave is a medieval village orange flag of the Italian Touring Club, surrounded by beautiful walls. The old town of Soave was founded following the longobard invasions of 568 A.D., when a group of Svevi was established there. The name Soave derives precisely from the name of this Svevese population (from the Latin Suaves).
The city was long contested for its strategic location that saw it edge an ancient wall with 24 towers and a castle, dominated and protected by the surrounding hills and the plain. The Castle is a typical military artefact of the Middle Ages and represents one of the best examples of the Castellani an italian structure of the Veneto.
Soave’s Scaligero Castle is viewable inside and out. The prestige of an exclusive place where time has stood still. Soave now hosts many activities throughout the year that you can find in the EVENTS section of the site.
